How to get rid of bags under the eyes or swollen eyelids?

Drinking more water and applying a cold compress in the form of a chilled spoon, cucumber or eye mask can help reduce swollen eyelids and bags under the eyes quickly, but to reduce dark circles or bags under the eyes in the long run, you probably need to do some lifestyle changes.

Get rid of dark circles under the eyes with makeup

To quickly get rid of dark circles under the eyes, you can use makeup, this is a temporary solution and does not solve the problem of dark circles. But if you find products you like and a technology that goes fast, it is very flexible!

Which is the best way depends on several things. I have therefore made a separate post this where I go into more detail on the makeup tips; Make up dark circles & bags under the eyes (5 tips).

Common causes of swollen eyelids, dark circles and bags under the eyes are:

  • Allergies
  • Eczema
  • Chronic fatigue
  • Problems with pigmentation
  • Sun exposure
  • Aging

When the pollen season starts, swollen eyelids and itchy eyes are usually a common symptom of pollen allergy.

Get rid of swollen eyelids, dark circles and bags under the eyes, 15 tips!

1. Test tea bags on the eyes:

Tea is not only nice to drink but also has good properties for the skin! Especially green tea with caffeine.

Caffeine in skin care is used because it stimulates the skin and leads to reduced swelling and has a firming effect. It is also rich in antioxidants and has an anti-inflammatory effect that gives a smoother skin tone.

tea tea bags under the eyes

Felt so quirky when I took this picture and thought it was so nice, haha! With the trees at dusk behind the curtain and the white wooden pigeon that is glimpsed to the left that my father has carpented for me. A real photographer for sure;)

How to test tea bags on the eyes:

  1. Heat water and put in two tea bags for approx. 3-5 minutes (As when making a cup of tea, you can enjoy your tea while the tea bags are cooling down).
  2. Put the tea bags in the fridge to cool for approx. 15-20 minutes.
  3. Squeeze out the liquid and then apply to the area around the eyes.
  4. Let the tea bags lie for approx. 15-30 minutes (Lie down comfortably and listen to a podcast or audiobook).

Clear!

Use a cold compress:

A cold compress (ie something that is cold) quickly reduces swollen eyelids and bags under the eyes and can be used as a quick fix. A tip is to have a cold gel eye mask in the fridge so that you have it easily accessible when needed, however, it is possible to use some other cooling you have at home as well.

List of some suggestions to use to soothe swollen eyelids:

  • Gel eye mask
  • Cool spoon
  • Cold cucumber slice
  • Wet cold towel
  • Bag of frozen peas

Note that if you use something frozen, do not hold it against the skin for too long and place a thin towel between the skin and the pea bag to avoid frostbite on the skin.

swollen eyelids, bags under the eyes, dark circles under the eyes, swollen eyes, tips. how to get rid of, reduce, cucumber

If you are only swollen under the eyes (not on the eyelids then) you can use half cucumber slices! Then it is possible to sit up halfway and do something at the same time, because if you put cucumber on your whole eyes, you have to close your eyes.

For some reason, do the cucumber slices look clipped in the picture? These are really cucumbers that I sit with anyway, haha!

3. Clean the sinuses with saline:

Sometimes there may be dirt & mucus in the sinuses that causes local swelling, so a tip is to try to clean the sinuses with saline (saline). You can either use a nasal rinsing jug for this or a water bottle with a smaller spout.

How to clean the sinuses with saline solution:

  1. Boil brine 1/2 teaspoon salt in a cup of water.
  2. Cool the water to body temperature or a little warmer.
  3. Fill the container you are going to use and tilt your head sideways over the sink and place the spout in the upper nostril (the one at the top).
  4. Inhale through your mouth in the meantime and carefully pour the saline solution into your nostril. (The saline solution should flow through and out of the lower nostril).
  5. Repeat the procedure for the other nostril with the head tilted in the other direction.

This can be good to do a little now and then if you have problems with the sinuses. If you have not tested it before, it may be worth trying!

4. Drink the right amount of water:

We consist of most water so it is important to get the right amount! Sometimes when you are full, it is easy to forget to drink or that you think you drink too little and drink unnecessarily much water.

How much water should you drink per day?

The amount of water you should ingest per day differs depending on the heat and what activities you perform. If you are very active or staying in warm climates, you need more water as you naturally sweat out more.

The body is fantastic at distributing and telling so it is not necessary to force water. Sometimes you can feel that the skin or lips feel drier and then it is good to think about drinking more.

If you eat a lot of salt, it binds more water in the body, more about it further down.

5. Take an antihistamine:

Allergies can cause bags under the eyes, swollen eyelids, dark circles under the eyes or redness and itchy eyes.

If you suspect that your swollen eyelids or bags under the eyes are due to an allergic reaction, you can consult your doctor about taking over-the-counter medications.

It is also good to try to find the cause of the allergic reaction yourself and think about when you get the problems and if it has anything to do with what you did at the time. Then in some cases you can only avoid what you are allergic to.

You can also be allergic to mites, then it is important to wash the pillowcases often and make sure to vacuum at home regularly.

Use retinol serum:

Many creams promise gold and green forests and it is easy to try many different creams and preparations, but sometimes it can be good to try specific ingredients instead of a mixture. Retinol is a collective name for vitamin A in skin care and retinol serum penetrates down to the dermis (the middle layer of the skin), making it more effective.

Retinol is available as a cream, serum and gel and can also be good for skin conditions such as acne and psoriasis.

It is usually applied once a day, for a while after washing your face. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, have rosacea or very sensitive skin, avoid retinol.

An eye cream I have not tested myself (because I do not have this problem area) but which is said to make a visible difference and be worth every drop despite the expensive price; It is Verso Super Eye Serum (adlink) containing retinol! I am in many beauty groups on Facebook, talk to a lot of customers at the salon and industry colleagues and this Verso eye cream is always someone who mentions and recommends, so it has been remembered even though I have not tested it myself! :)

swollen eyelids, bags under the eyes, dark circles under the eyes, swollen eyes, tips. how to get rid of, reduce, cucumber

Preferably apply eye cream dabbing with the ring finger, instead of pulling the finger back and forth. The skin is like a rubber band, but if you pull on it every day for several years, it will lose its elasticity. The ring finger is good because you do not have much strength in it = less risk that you are too harsh.

7. Use sunscreen when staying in the sun:

Protecting the skin from the sun is important to counteract signs of aging, skin cancer and discoloration of the skin.

The skin under the eyes is very thin and sensitive, so it is important to use an eye cream with a sun protection factor to counteract dark circles and bags under the eyes.

Another tip is to use sunglasses with the right sunscreen to protect the skin around the eyes.

8. Microneedling test:

Microneedling is also known as collagen induction therapy. It is said to reduce wrinkles, scarring and even pigmentation problems, such as dark circles and bags under the eyes.

When you do microneedling, you use fine needles to puncture the skin. This creates a controlled type of damage that activates healing of the skin.

This is not a quick fix as microneedling is usually divided into several visits within a few weeks or months.

The recovery time is relatively fast with microneedling, but you should also keep in mind that all procedures also include risks.

Risks with microneedling:

  • Bleeding
  • Bruises
  • Infection
  • Scarring

You can also do microneedling at home, with a roller, but it is risky and something that dermatologists strongly advise against !!

9. Wash off makeup before bedtime:

It is important to wash off the make-up before you go to bed! If not, it is easy for dirt to accumulate in and around the eyes, causing swollen eyelids or bags under the eyes.

If you put on make-up daily, it is extra important to clean the skin in the evening and let it rest during the night. I like the cleansing foam from Indy Beauty! Read more about it in my blog post Review & Indy Beauty skin care & body care

10. Sleep with your head higher up:

It can be good to try to get your head up a little when you sleep, it may be enough to e.g. use a thicker pillow or two pillows.

Raising your head helps prevent fluid from accumulating in your eyelids and creates swollen eyelids or bags under your eyes while you sleep.

If you do not like to use several pillows or have problems with the neck from sleeping with your head higher up, another tip is to raise the entire bed section where you lie with your head, a few centimeters may be enough.

11. Get enough sleep:

Sleep is very important not only for swollen eyelids, dark circles or bags under the eyes but the whole well-being! Even if poor sleep in itself does not create dark circles, it will highlight these.

Tips for getting better sleep:

  • Try a sleep schedule to get routine in your sleep.
  • Exercise (anytime of the day)
  • Avoid caffeine altogether to see if it helps.
  • Avoid alcoholic beverages before bedtime.
  • Do not eat too close to bedtime, count on a few hours.
  • Turn off TV, mobile phones and other electronics one hour before bedtime.
  • Avoid stress and stressful environments.

There are also some medications if you have problems with your sleep, but the best thing is to try to find natural alternatives and avoid things that make it harder to sleep.

It sounds easy to say that you should avoid stress and stressful environments, but sometimes you need to review your life and change course to something more harmonious, even if it may feel impossible. It is usually the inner stress that gnaws when you go to sleep, e.g. unpaid bills, problems in relationships, etc. Things that are not so easy to solve. But small steps forward or small changes can also make a big difference so that you can relax better in the evening ♥

12. Eat and drink healthier:

As you get older, the tissue and muscles that support the eyelids weaken. This in turn causes the skin and fats around the eyes to begin to sink and can create bags under the eyes.

If you have a vitamin brush, it can be good to increase the intake of vitamin C and other important vitamins and minerals in the diet, you can reduce signs of aging and dark circles under the eyes.

Foods rich in vitamin C and amino acids can also help with collagen production by increasing your levels of hyaluronic acid and creating healthier skin.

diet eyes

Overall, it is good to eat all kinds of fruits and vegetables more and reduce foods that are processed and not in their natural form.

Good sources of vitamin C include:

  • Pepper
  • Citrus fruits
  • Kale
  • Broccoli
  • Strawberries

I have made a major post about vitamin C (Vitamin C - Ascorbic acid), has also made posts about good bacteria (Probiotics, Prebiotics & Lactic Acid Bacteria) and vitamin D (Vitamin D - What is it good for?). If you are interested, they are worth reading! :)

13. Reduce salt intake:

If you have swollen eyelids, dark circles under the eyes or bags under the eyes, salt can be the culprit for the problem. Because salt binds fluid, an excessive intake of salt can be the reason for bags under the eyes.

If you know that you often eat salty foods and snacks, this is perhaps the best tip for reducing bags under the eyes. In addition to the problems around the eyes, too much salt can also lead to other health problems such as heart disease and stroke. So there are only benefits to reducing your intake and not over-consuming salt!

Regular use of salt in cooking is nothing to worry about, it is mainly if you eat very salty snacks or junk food with a lot of salt and saturated fat.

So avoid salty snacks and processed foods and instead try to eat more fresh fruits, berries and vegetables where you can regulate the amount of salt yourself and not oversalt.

14. Reduce alcohol intake:

Alcohol contributes to dehydration and dehydration can lead to dark circles, swollen eyelids and bags under the eyes. In addition, you can also get worse sleep and risk other health problems if you drink too much alcohol.

So reduce dark circles, swollen eyelids and bags under the eyes by reducing your alcohol intake.

If you need help to stop drinking, you can look inside Alcohol help.

15. Quit smoking:

Smoking reduces the body's vitamin C supply and vitamin C is the vitamin responsible for creating healthy collagen in the skin. So with prolonged smoking, in addition to the more life-threatening injuries such as cancer and cardiovascular disease, you can also get more wrinkles, discoloration and even dark circles and bags under the eyes.

Addictions are usually only mental and with the right attitude it is possible to quit, but you should be aware that one addiction can easily be exchanged for another.

If you need help quitting smoking, you can look inside Stop-Smoking-Line.

When to see a doctor / clinic?

If you have major problems, creams, sleep or changed lifestyle habits will not suddenly change the entire skin around the eyes. It is possible to make fillers to fill in the "depth" under the eye and you can also operate to remove bags under the eyes.

If you experience that your problems are due to another problem in the body, it is important to let a doctor look at it to initiate the right treatment. If you are unsure, I can recommend contacting your healthcare center or a digital doctor such as e.g. KRY. Very easy to quickly get an assessment at home and get recommended medicine or referral if needed :)

Indy Beauty - Curl It Up! Defining Mascara Review

Characteristics: Defining Volume: 8.5 ml Price range: Average

Indy Beauty - Curl It Up! Defining Mascara Review

Product description:

“A mascara for long, defined eyelashes. A narrow mascara brush with soft fibers bends and separates the lashes for a beautiful result that lasts all day, without smudges or crumbs. Can be built on after each application, but let the mascara dry between applications. Unscented & 100% vegan mascara. ”

Price at time of writing: SEK 159 (Link)

Indy Beauty - Curl It Up! Defining Mascara best in test

Indy Beauty Curl It Up! Defining Mascara Review:

Application: Easily painted! You can work a lot with the brush and lashes. It quickly gives a carbon black color and fine lashes. Can lump a little if you have a lot of powder on the lashes (I who powder myself so much) so try to be careful with the lashes when you powder yourself.

Mascara brush: Very soft and nice mascara brush.

Results: Have tried both bending the lashes with pliers and skipping it. The mascara will be just as nice no matter what! My lashes are not difficult to bend, but few mascaras bend them as much without pliers as this one actually does. Good separation (not super-combing, but still separated) and also a lot of volume. It is not described as a volume mascara but I think more about volume than separation.

Sustainability: Great compared to many mascaras, but not completely flawless as it discolours a little under the eye for me. Which is probably due to my oily skin. Think it holds up well to most others!

Easy to wash off? No difficulty in washing off! Neither with eye makeup remover (micellar water) nor with hot water and my usual cleaning.

Advantages (+) and Disadvantages (-):

+ Easily painted
+ Nice volume!
+ Vegan
Not perfect durability on oily skin

Summary: Indy Beauty curl it up defining mascara is really a mascara for me, if only it had lasted a little better! But if I use eye primer and powder the skin under the eyes properly, I think it will go well anyway. I will probably continue to use it even if it does not win the best mascara in tests! Nice to avoid eyelash curlers! :)

Indy Beauty - Raise The Volume! Volumising Mascara Review

Characteristics: Volumizing Volume: 12.5 ml Price range: Average

Indy Beauty - Raise The Volume! Volumising Mascara Review

Product description:

“The mascara should give the lashes maximum volume. The mascara brush with fibers should create a beautiful result with thick & full lashes that last all day, without smudges or crumbs. It should be possible to build on after each application, but let the mascara dry between applications. Unscented & 100% vegan mascara. ”

Price at time of writing: SEK 159 (Link)

Indy Beauty - Raise The Volume! Volumising Mascara best in test

Indy Beauty Raise The Volume! Volumising Mascara Review:

Application: Easy to paint and quick to paint! Easy on the lower lashes and good precision even though the brush is large.

Mascara brush: Large and soft brush that is really combing. It is not entirely common with such greasy brushes that also comb effectively.

Results: Very nice length and separation. Large brush is not = volume I have realized from this post. Think this gives more separation and length than volume.

Sustainability:Pretty good but discolors a bit under the eyes of me. Could be because I have oily skin. I get such heavenly nice eyelashes from this and like everything with it, so a pity that it does not keep clean because then it would have been a new favorite!

Easy to wash off? No difficulty in washing off! Neither with eye makeup remover (micellar water) nor with hot water and my usual cleaning.

Other: Great price for a mascara! But not only that but the content of 12.5 ml is extremely good! This makes the mascara even more affordable as you get a lot for your money.

Difference in Indy Beauty curl it up & Raise the volume: The funny thing is that I would like to change the product description on these to the opposite. That Curl it up gives more volume and that Raise the volume are more separated and length. At least on my eyelashes! :) Besides that, Curl It Up holds me a little better than what Raise The Volume does, the volume mascara discolors a little more under the eye (have tested on each eye the same day and could therefore see the difference clearly). And that Indy Beauty Raise The Volume contains a larger amount, 12.5 ml compared to Curl It Up which contains 8.5 ml.

Advantages (+) and Disadvantages (-):

+ Affordable & large quantity!
+ Vegan
+ Separates and lengthens lashes.
Smaller volume than promised
– Not perfect durability on oily skin

Summary: Indy Beauty Raise the volume mascara is exactly the kind of mascara I am looking for as I personally prefer separated lashes over volume. But since it is described as a volume mascara, I can not really give it a "full pot" anyway. But extremely fine lashes and I will test the powder properly under the eyes and see if it lasts better then - in such cases it will be used extensively!

Loreal Mascara - L'Oréal Paris Telescopic Mascara Review

Characteristics: Extends & Separates Volume: 8 ml Price range: Average

Loreal Mascara - L'Oréal Paris Telescopic Mascara Review, best mascara, mascara best in test,

Product description:

Telescopic Mascara is the first mascara from L´Oréal Paris that both lengthens and separates eyelashes. With a flexible multi-brush with high precision, it separates and lengthens the eyelashes in a nice way, without clumping. ”

Price at time of writing: 165: - (Link)

Loreal Mascara - L'Oréal Paris Telescopic Mascara best in test

L'Oréal Paris Telescopic Mascara Review:

Application: The first time I used this, it became very nice directly on one eye, while the other eye was more difficult to work due to too much mascara cream. Then I realized that you need to hold the brush at the right angle so that it combs properly, because it does not have even spikes around the entire brush. But Super good precision!

Mascara brush: A little sloppy rubber brush, I prefer a firmer one that you can press a little more with. But otherwise good.

Results: Proper separation (depends a bit on how you hold the brush) and good volume. Nice result! The lower lashes became nice and defined! Really think it is a good mascara for people with shorter eyelashes!

Other: This mascara is really popular! I am in many beauty groups on Facebook and every time someone asks for mascara tips, this is recommended. So no matter what I say, you can think that it is very popular with many! :)

Sustainability: Colored off a bit, mostly upstairs (so it probably depends on my oily skin) but a little down as well.

Easy to wash off? Easy to wash off!

Advantages (+) and Disadvantages (-):

+ Nice length and volume
+ Super good precision
+ Very nice lashes!
You have to hold the brush at the right angle to get the combing effect.

Summary: I know that L'Oreal Paris Telescopic Mascara is super-poppis and the winner in several "mascara best in test"! I think this is a good mascara for people who have a little hard-working eyelashes? Because I have used this twice and both times it has looked best on my "worse eye" where the lashes are a little more difficult to work with. It was interesting :) For me personally, I do not like the sloppy brush and it colored a little too much on the top of the eye so that I can use it regularly.

Isadora Mascara - IsaDora Flashing Volume Review

Characteristics: Volumizing Volume: 9 ml Price range: Budget

Isadora Mascara - IsaDora Flashing Volume Review

Product description:

Flashing Volume from Isadora gives the lashes incredible volume and an illusion of false eyelashes. The unique brush with cavities provides double the amount of mascara, for even coverage and full lashes. The brush is made to separate and define each eyelash. ”

Price at time of writing: SEK 149 (Link)

Isadora Mascara - IsaDora Flashing Volume best in test

IsaDora Flashing Volume Review:

Application: This I like! Very much cream at once. It is enough to dip the brush once per eye. Very fast application! You do not have to work so much with the brush to get it nice. You can work a lot with the lashes and build up more volume and length if you wish. Easy even on the lower lashes - which became very long.

Brush: Combs the straws finely. The top of the brush is as wide as the rest, so if you have difficulty accessing the corner of the eye, you may want a brush with a narrower top. But good precision for my lashes.

Results: Very full-bodied closest to the root and separated tops. A combo that is not very common actually. Like it very much!

Other: Sometimes when you pull up the brush, one comes unusual large cloth on top that you have to scrape off against the edge of the sleeve.

Sustainability: I was black on the skin both above and below the eye after a whole day with this mascara. It was black further down under the eye than where my lower lashes reach, which must mean that it crumbled during the day and thus turned black under the eye.

Easy to wash off? Yes! Both with my usual makeup remover (micellar water) and with regular facial cleanser and water.

Advantages (+) and Disadvantages (-):

+ Gives a lot of volume
+ AND separates
 Does not last all day

Summary: IsaDora Flashing Volume would have been a perfect mascara for me who loves both volume and separation - IF the durability had only been better. Sustainability is for me a deal breaker. (Note my "problem" long lashes and oily skin). Otherwise, I actually think it would have combed home first place as mascara best in test, my lashes will be really crazy nice!

Maybelline Mascara - Lash Sensational Multiplying Mascara best in test

Maybelline Lash Sensational Multiplying Mascara Review:

Best mascara in the budget category - Low price for the whole 10.5 ml!

Application: It comes with just the right amount of cream for each move. Can work long and hard with the brush! Good precision in the corner of the eye and lower lashes despite the thick brush. Very combing!

Mascara brush: Large and curved rubber brush that is very combing. Access to every eyelash.

Results: Many eyelashes! Volume and separation at the same time. Have probably never tried a mascara that made my eyelashes look so numerous. I understand why it is called "Multiplying Mascara" :)

Sustainability: Good for being a budget mascara! Stained a little under the eyes only.

Easy to wash off? Easy to wash off, both with micellar water and with hot water and regular cleaning.

Advantages (+) and Disadvantages (-):

+ Many eyelashes!
+ The brush reaches every fringe
+ Affordable with a lot of content
Colors a little under the eyes

Summary: Maybelline Lash Sensational Multiplying Mascara I will definitely use more! Not a durability that I trust on important occasions, but nice and many eyelashes and a good everyday mascara. Absolutely wins "mascara best in test" when it comes to budget mascaras!

Max Factor Mascara - Masterpiece Max Mascara best in test

Max Factor Masterpiece Max Mascara Review:

Fun fact: This is the mascara I used when I started putting on make-up when I was a teenager. I used it for many, many years! :) The smell / smell (which is not very special) reminds me of old times haha.

Application: This old treat is not so stupid! Fast-working, separates nicely, just right with the color of the brush - quite a bit but still enough. Buildable but nicer if you do not do it, because it does not separate as well then.

Mascara brush: Good precision and a rubber brush that combs nicely! Narrow top that makes it easy to access in the corner of the eye.

Results: I remember why I liked it! I have always liked separated lashes, no lumps and no hassle. But still carbon black results and long eyelashes. Very good!

Easy to wash off? Yes! Both with my usual makeup remover (micellar water) and with regular facial cleanser and water.

Sustainability: My most common complaint. I was black both above and below the eye at the end of the day! It was black further down under the eye than where my lower lashes reach, which must mean that it crumbled during the day and thus turned black under the eye.

Advantages (+) and Disadvantages (-):

+ Separates nicely and gives long lashes
+ Does not clump.
Does not last all day

Summary: Maxfactor Masterpiece Max Mascara is perfect for you who like separated but carbon black and long eyelashes. Gives a natural result. However, sustainability is for me a deal breaker. (Note my "problem" long lashes and oily skin). Remember it from before too, how you went and pulled with your finger on the eyelid to get rid of the blackness!

Max Factor Mascara - 2000 Calorie Mascara Dramatic Volume best in test

Max Factor 2000 Calorie Mascara Dramatic Volume Review:

Application: Easily painted! Separates nicely even though it does not "comb" so much. Just right with color.

Mascara brush: Soft and pleasant brush with a narrow tip that gives a nice separation.

Results: Separated lashes and a mild result. However, I can not agree with the promised "Dramatic Volume". More of an everyday mascara!

Sustainability: Just a little dark under the eye. Nothing over the eyes.

Easy to wash off? Easy to wash off, no strangeness.

Advantages (+) and Disadvantages (-):

+ Affordable with good content (9 ml)
+ Easy to paint and nice result
Not as much volume as promised

Summary: Max Factor 2000 Calorie Mascara Dramatic Volume is a good everyday mascara I would say :) When I do not do a proper eye makeup but only have mascara, then I like a natural result. Good durability for being so cheap too! However, it gets a few minus points because it promises much more volume than I feel it gives.

Clinique Mascara - Clinique Lash Power Mascara Review

Characteristics: Extension Volume: 6 ml Price range: Average

Clinique Mascara - Clinique Lash Power Mascara Review best in test

Product description:

“Lash Power Mascara from Clinique must be moisture-proof for up to 24 hours and withstand both moisture and tears. Hot water should be enough to wash off. The brush should give beautifully long lashes, and also length to the very shortest of the eyelashes. Clinique mascara 38 degrees is also ophthalmologically tested. ”

Price at time of writing: SEK 245 (Link)

Clinique Mascara - Clinique Lash Power Mascara Review

Clinique Lash Power Mascara Review:

Application: Separates nicely and can work a lot with the lashes. Can be built up but you then have to dip twice, because there is not much mascara cream on the brush. Easy even on the lower lashes.

Brush: Good precision and I like that the brush is narrow and long. I also like that it is soft, it combs nicely even though it is not made of rubber.

Results: Lumps a lot on me! Almost so I'm not sure if I got a Monday copy. It is clear in the picture what I mean. It did not turn out well.

Easy to wash off? Yes! Semi-simple with my usual makeup remover (micellar water), it did not disappear immediately but it worked. With regular facial cleansing and water, there were no problems at all!

Sustainability: Black under the eye at the end of the day. It holds moisture and oil, but I was black further down under the eye than where my lower lashes reach, which must mean that it crumbled during the day and thus colored black under the eye. But it had not discolored on the eyelid so it fits oily skin that way.

Advantages (+) and Disadvantages (-):

+ Easy to wash off in warm water (40+ degrees).
+
Holds tears and moisture without smudges.
+ Good brush for easy application.
Lumps, no nice result on my lashes.

Summary: I googled "Clinique Lash Powder Mascara reviews" and am becoming more and more sure that I got a Monday copy, because many people really like it! Personally, I really like the brush and if it had not crumbled, it would probably have held up well as well. I may have to buy a new one and update this review :) But if it is to be so clumsy, it really is a dealbreaker for me and ends up in last place as the best mascara in the test.

Xlash Mascara Review

Characteristics: Extension Volume: 7 g Price range: Average

Xlash Mascara Review, best mascara, mascara best in test

Product description:

Xlash Mascara will help to get the maximum length of the eyelashes. The mascara has caring properties and a smart brush that prevents the mascara from clumping. Xlash Mascara should also give extra volume and 100% color to each eyelash. It has a high concentration of carbon black pigments and ensures a rich and deep color. ”

Price at time of writing: SEK 169 (Link)

Xlash Mascara Review best in test

Xlash Mascara Review:

Almost the best mascara! Place number two as mascara best in test!

Application: Lots of color at once and you can work with the brush for a long time, which I like! My hairdresser told me about Xlash Mascara and said "finally I found the right one!".

Mascara brush: Large and curved brush. When I saw it, I did not think it looked so good actually, but it combs nicely and gives good precision!

Results: Volume and length! Not very separated eyelashes but still "nicely brushed" I would say. Possibly think it is a bit awkward though, I happened to smudge a bit on the eyelid.

Other: What smeared on the skin was very easy to remove with a dry top!

Sustainability: Pure durability !! Not a trace of crumbs or smudges. Very satisfied!!

Easy to wash off? Easy to wash off, both with micellar water and my usual cleaning and hot water.

Advantages (+) and Disadvantages (-):

+ Sits all day!
+
Nothing lumpy or sticky.
+ Carbon black
Slightly awkward brush

Summary: Full hit! I like that I can work for a long time with the brush, the result is nice with just the right volume, separation and above all nice length. And it fits well all day too! Had Sensai not been in this "mascara best in test", Xlash would have scooped the win! I get a little nicer lashes from Sensai, but they almost have a shared first place!

Lancome Mascara - Lancome Hypnosis Mascara Review

Characteristics: Extends, Highlights & Volume Volume: 6.5 g Price range: Luxury

Lancome Mascara - Lancome Hypnosis Mascara Review

Product description:

“Hypnôse from Lancômes is one of their best and most popular mascaras! It should make the lashes up to 6 times fuller and should be able to be painted in several layers while the lashes stay separated. Should fit all types of eyelashes. ”

Price at time of writing: SEK 329 (Link)

Lancome Mascara - Lancôme Hypnosis Mascara best in test

Lancôme Hypnose Mascara Review:

Application: Easy to work and fast to work! You can work with the brush for a long time without the formula drying or clumping, but it is not necessary because they are nice with just a few strokes.

Mascara brush: Nice soft brush! Good precision, even on the lower lashes.

Results: Carbon black eyelashes nice volume! In these pictures, however, the lashes do not look very nice (?) I must say. But I have used it several times and think they are really nice! More volume than separation, but still nicely brushed as well. Satisfied!

Sustainability: Colors a little under the eyes, but otherwise very good. Kept well even one day when I shoveled snow at the same time as it snowed a lot of wet snow :)

Easy to wash off? No difficulty in washing off.

Advantages (+) and Disadvantages (-):

+ Nothing crumbling or messy.
+
Good formula & brush for easy application.
+
Quickly painted!
Slightly expensive for the crowd.

Summary: Lancome Hypnose Mascara gives great lashes and very fast-painted! Do not trust the durability 100% if I am going to do something important, as it still has a tendency to discolor a little under the eyes. But I think it holds up very well to most people! Over SEK 300 for 6.5 grams is in the most luxurious team, but if it had only had a little better durability, I would probably have said that it is worth the money :) Had it had pure durability, it would have absolutely competed for the first place as mascara best in Test!

Clarins Be Long Mascara best in test

Clarins Be Long Mascara Review:

Application: Very easy to work with and fast! One dip is enough for the whole eye and it will be nice with just a few strokes. Very black.

Brush: Separates and combs the straws very well. Rubber brush with narrow top, good precision! I like it!

Results: Great result, especially for going so fast! Separated lashes with nice volume.

Sustainability - Crumbles and discolors on the eyelid (at least on me with oily skin).

Easy to wash off? Yes! Very simple indeed. Both with makeup remover (micellar water) and with regular facial cleanser and water.

Advantages (+) and Disadvantages (-):

+ Brushes the lashes perfectly & separates very well!
+
Easily reaches even the smallest lashes.
–  Crumbles and smears during the day.
5 grams is the smallest layer

Summary: So sorry it held so bad! Because I was so happy otherwise! Expected a lot more. Sustainability is a dealbreaker. But otherwise great lashes!

Idun Mascara - Magna Lengthening Mascara best in test

Idun Minerals Magna Lengthening Mascara Review:

Application: Very light formula, lots of color and lots of cream at once. You can work with the lashes and brush for a long time without it drying or becoming clumsy. Easy to add two layers even if you want more volume.

Brush: Long with cone-shaped and soft brush, I like it! Long but narrow :) Good precision both in the corner of the eye and on the lower lashes.

Results: Separates appropriately, more volume and length than separation. Great carbon black lashes!

Other: The winner of "mascara best in test - sensitive eyes" as it is fragrance-free and ophthalmologically tested.

Sustainability: Holds well for oily skin! Do not be black at all on the eyelids where the lashes strike when I look. However, a little dark under the eyes and saw some crumbs before I washed off.

Easy to wash off? Yes! Both with makeup remover (micellar water) and with regular facial cleanser and water.

Advantages (+) and Disadvantages (-):

+ Fine volume
+
Large package, 12 ml
+
Vegan
Crumbles a little day

Summary: Idun Minerals Magna Lengthening Mascara mascara gives you a lot for your money, 12 ml is great! I like both the application and the result, a very nice mascara! Too bad it just crumbles, it lowers the rating. But I use quite a lot of powder as well (due to my oily skin) and it settles a little on the lashes even though I try to beware of them. So maybe hold on to someone else better! :)

Due to its Extreme Bold Volume formula with three different volume-giving fibers, the mascara works almost as an eyelash extension when the lashes are multiplied.

Estee Lauder Mascara - Sumptuous Extreme Mascara best in test

Estee Lauder Sumptuous Extreme Mascara Review:

Application: Quickly painted and gives a nice amount of cream! Not too much and not too little. Not superb precision in the corner of the eye though, despite the brush being narrower at the top.

Mascara brush: Big, soft brush which contributes to a faster application.

Results: Nice volume! Thought you would get more volume because the brush is so big, but still gave good separation and length! Very nice lashes :)

Sustainability: Colored off on the top only = does not hold up very well to oiliness but does not crumble either! Know a follower who uses this and was super happy in addition to just the durability, for her it smears in the "outer corners under half the eye".

Easy to wash off? Very easy to wash off! No weirdness.

Advantages (+) and Disadvantages (-):

+ Provides volume & length!
+
Easy to apply & does not clump.
Not perfect durability

Summary: Estee Lauder Sumptuo's Extreme Mascara could have been worth the money if it had only had a little better durability! But if you do not have oily skin like me (or use eye primer), I still think it lasts well. So still a mascara I can recommend! Also named the best mascara in KICKS Beauty Awards 2017 "mascara best in test" and I know several who are very happy with this!

Sensai Mascara - 38 ° C Volumising Review best in test, best mascara

Sensai 38 ° C Volumising Mascara Review:

Best mascara! The winner of my "mascara best in test" which gives great eyelashes, incredible volume and above all pure durability in the shower!

Application: Nice creamy formula that gives a lot of color instantly! You can not "work" so much with the lashes, but it felt more like I painted them as they are already natural - but better. Think it is great for both short and very long lashes!

Brush: Small spiral brush, very good precision while giving a lot of cream. Great on the lower lashes!

Results: Not so separated lashes, but more volume and color. But great!

Sustainability: FINALLY a mascara that keeps the measure! I actually feel that 38-degree mascaras are the way to go. Does not crumble, does not smudge and the lashes were just as nice all day!

Easy to wash off? With my eye makeup remover (micellar water) type impossible. With hot water and my usual facial cleanser? Yes, quite, but it is not possible to compare with the mascaras with poorer durability. But it's worth it! It went away without much effort! :) Not difficult but not easy either!

Advantages (+) and Disadvantages (-):

+ Great lashes with volume!
+ Creamy and nice formula
+ Sits nicely all day!
Contains only 6 ml.

Summary: Sensai 38° C Volumising Mascara my favorite of the ones I have reviewed so far in this mascara best in test posts! Great lashes and good durability! I suspect that it is best for lashes like mine, which are slightly curved with pliers and quite long. Do not know how well it shapes obsessive lashes (?) Because I feel that you can not "work" so much with the brush. But I really love it!

How did I perform this mascara best in tests?

  • Without eye primer. If you, like me, have oily eyelids, it can make the mascara smudge, so to see the true durability of the mascara, I skipped the primer.
  • I have bent the eyelashes with forceps before use. I always use pliers and it will be a fairer assessment if I do as I always do.
  • In mostly indoor environment. So they are not super tested in e.g. snow / rain or other very stressful environment.
  • At least one full day per mascara, some more uses. If you use a mascara in e.g. a whole month, there may be even more to say about each mascara, but then this mascara would best in test posts take a whole year to do :)

My basic conditions: oily skin & long lashes:

As a makeup artist, I am often asked "what is the best mascara?" but it is so individually. Because it depends on what you want for results, how your lashes are and if you have a specific problem area (eg teary eyes, oily skin, etc.). In other words, if I diss a mascara in this post then you may love it. So it might be a good idea to read more product reviews too!

So to get a fair picture of my reviews, I first thought to tell you about my own conditions!

I have oily skin, which impairs durability. When the eyelashes touch the brow bone, it discolors. If the mascara crumbles, the crumbs stick to the skin under the eye and are smeared out.

My eyelashes are quite long, slightly curved and semi-easy to work with. Not very easy but definitely not difficult either.

Mascara Best in Test - Best mascara for oily eyelids

Since I have oily skin and thus also oily eyelids, this mascara best in tests has perhaps mostly been about finding the best mascara for oily eyelids. A mascara that does not smudge on the eyelids is a must! Many of these mascaras probably work great for you with dry skin and short lashes.

The best mascara for oily eyelids that worked best for me is Sensai 38° C Volumising Mascara (adlink) and Xlash Mascara (adlink).

mascara that lasts, how to get mascara to hold, smudges, oily skin, problems makeup durability

Excuse the extremely bad light in this picture, I took a quick photo inside the bathroom before I washed off the makeup :) Just wanted to show that when I say "poor durability" it is not me who is picky and pedantic, but I get really dark !

This is after a full day of Clarins Be Long mascara that I reviewed in the post. But on a person who does not have oily skin, then maybe it lasts great!

How to get rid of waterproof mascara?

To remove waterproof mascara, an oil-based makeup remover is the best in my opinion. I can recommend Yves Rocher Express Eye Makeup Remover (adlink) which is a very effective two-phase make-up remover. I have been using it for many years now actually.

Oil dissolves make-up, which is good when washing off make-up! But it is also a problem for people with oily / combination skin, including myself, as mascaras that otherwise hold up well start to smudge due to the oil dissolving. Also applies to waterproof mascaras, because waterproof is not oil resistant!

Here is an old picture of this Yves Rocher Eye Makeup Remover from when I blogged about it for the first time in Feb 2014. So 7 years ago at the time of writing! Galet :)

What does mascara contain?

Usually, mascara is made from a combination of oils and waxes that give its consistency, pigments for the color and preservatives that are designed to prevent clumping or separation.

The ingredients may differ slightly depending on whether it is e.g. a vegan mascara, waterproof mascara or has other specific properties.

Some mascaras also contain fibers, which are simply explained as small lint particles that settle as a small extension on the eyelash.

Which mascara for lash extensions?

It is possible to have mascara on lash extensions as well, there are also specific mascaras that are made for this. However, you should consider having a mascara that is not waterproof as these often require an oil-based makeup remover to wash off. The oil in turn can dissolve the glue on the lash extension.

In addition, you must have a mascara that is easy to wash off, as you must be very careful with the lashes if the eyelash extension is to stay nice. And the fact that you have to wash it off proper due to hygiene reasons.

Since I myself do not have eyelash extensions, I unfortunately can not find the best mascara for eyelash extensions. But if you have any tips of your own, feel free to leave a comment at the bottom.

Hair Removal Face with Eyebrow Knife (Guide)

Do you have unwanted hair growth on your face? Or like me a lot of little fools who are a little half unwanted just? :) Here comes a guide for facial hair removal with eyebrow knife / eyebrow knife / eyebrow razor. Dear child has many names!

Can you shave your face? Can you use an eyebrow knife in the face? Do you get darker hairs by shaving? Is it a big no no to shave your face or not?

That men with coarse hair growth shave their faces is not strange, but for others this is actually a watershed. Many people have opinions about whether it is a big no no or whether it is okay.

What do I think about facial hair removal by shaving? I admit that I'm one of those people who shaves my face with an eyebrow knife - and I love it! Easy way to remove blemishes on the face or shave off unwanted hair growth at home :)

But there are pros and cons that are good to know about!

Facial hair removal - Guide to shaving the face

hair removal face, brow knife, eyebrow knife, straight face girl, women shaving face

A folding brow knife is the best in my opinion (more on that below). For example, the knife BrowGame Cosmetics Eyebrow Shaping Knife Foldable (adlink) which I can really recommend!

Why remove facial hair with an eyebrow knife?

For me, 0% is about looks actually, I have never disliked my fjun. On the contrary, I can think that it looks very cute, especially on others who have even more fun :) It is charming!

The biggest reason is that I have to (do not have to, but you get the idea) to remove the straws from my upper lip because I have tattooed my lips outside of my natural shape. Enlarged the shape then. So if I do not remove the hair on the upper lip, I simply have hairy lips. ;) I usually pick with tweezers as well but keep up with the brow knife every now and then.

Then I started again on straight larger areas and now I do hair removal all over my face with an eyebrow knife. It's so nice!

Benefits of facial hair removal:

Many people experience that the make-up fits better if you remove the hair on the face, because there are no hairs in the way but you put the make-up directly on the skin. Perfect if you, like me, use large amounts of powder as well, nothing that gets stuck in the furnace.

You get a nice luster too! A layer of fun gives a matte impression.

Quite honestly, though, that's not why I shave my whole face with an eyebrow knife. I was just sitting and thinking about this .. Why am I shaving my whole face? Because it is  so heavenly satisfying  ! Lol! When you pull with the eyebrow knife and only small dust rats fall off the fluff and land on the cat you have in your arms. And afterwards you are completely smooth in the face. I LOVE IT!

For me, hair removal is not a "must as I do on the go" but I do it when I have my own time. I drink tea, pluck my eyebrows, file and paint my nails, dye my lashes and then shave my face. Mostly as self-care in other words, I take care of myself.

fjun face, lint, peach, hair removal face, brow knife, eyebrow knife

It did not look so good in the picture so I gathered a small fluffy rat on the cheek to show. I do not have much grin on my face, I think, but when you shave you realize how much it actually is!

How to shave your face?

  1. Clean the face
  2. Disinfect the eyebrow knife
  3. Be very light on the hand, use a sharp eyebrow knife, gently pull with short strokes over the area.
  4. Finish with a face oil or day cream.

I who have a sharp eyebrow knife and not a lot of hair growth usually do not need to use any soothing products afterwards. But you can definitely do that if you feel it is needed. A soothing face mask perhaps!

can you shave your face? girl woman how to shave your face? eyebrow knife brow knife hair removal face girl stub makeup benefits disadvantages darker hair coarser hairs

Disadvantages of eyebrow knife in the face:

Doing facial hair removal with an eyebrow knife is not the best method for you who have coarse hair growth or super sensitive skin.

I have very thin straws so I never experience that it is stubble when it grows out. Even though the straw is "cut", it is still so thin and soft that it does not feel. But if you have a little coarser straw, you will get a rough stubble feeling. This is because if the straw grows out naturally, it has a tapered top, but when you shave, you cut off that top and therefore get a cut-off top that gives this stubble feeling.

It can "wear" a little on the skin. Just like when you shave your legs, the razor blade has a certain strain on the skin and since the skin on the face is more sensitive than the skin on the legs, you should be careful. If you have sensitive skin, very dry areas, a lot of acne, etc., I do not recommend shaving in these areas.

Irritated skin after shaving

Even though I do not have sensitive skin, I once learned the hard way that enzyme peeling after shaving your face is not a good idea. If you want to use deep cleansing products, do so in such cases before :)

Apart from the incident with my enzyme peel, shaving with an eyebrow knife has never affected my skin. This is probably also because an eyebrow knife does not shave as close to the skin as a regular razor. So I never get razor fins or inward-facing hairs. Not once and I have still done facial hair removal with an eyebrow knife for several years now.

On the other hand, when I thread or use epistick in large areas, then I get lots of red rashes 2-3 days afterwards that remain for about a week. My skin is simply too sensitive for that.

Best eyebrow knife

The best brow bend is the best in my opinion is one that is 1. sharp and 2. that stays sharp because it is foldable which means that the blade is always protected.

Before, I used a regular eyebrow knife (with plastic protection on, which you lose after two weeks) and was therefore so used to using a dull eyebrow knife. It does not matter if you test a new one, it gets dull right away anyway.

So when I tested a folding eyebrow knife, at first I did not really like it at all. I was so used to having to "take in" and be harsh with the whetstone for the enemy to disappear! So when I did the same with my foldable brow knife, I actually cut myself and then the skin flaking all over the area. How sick?

Not only hair removal but skin removal too haha.

Then when it struck me that the fault lay in my old eyebrow knife, not the new one, and that the solution was as simple as being light on the hand! Then I realized that this brow knife is amazing! And that I had not been very kind to the skin but my dull eyebrow knife before. Usch haha.

best eyebrow knife, sharp eyebrow knife, durable eyebrow knife, folding eyebrow knife, foldable eyebrow knife

There are several different folding brow knives. In the picture you see a variant but another favorite that is great is BrowGame Cosmetics Eyebrow Shaping Knife Foldable (adlink) which stays sharp and good precisely because it is foldable.

BrowGame is a really good brand overall, I have both tweezers and a makeup mirror from BrowGame that I use almost daily! Love it!

Darker hair by shaving is a myth

That you cut off the hair above the skin surface is not something that the hair follicle notices. It's like going to the hairdresser and cutting your hair, it will not affect the hair that grows out of the root. So shaving with an eyebrow knife does not give darker or coarser hairs.

If your hair gets darker or coarser, it is due to age or hormones. I have always had blonde hair on my legs but they are getting darker and darker now. However, it has nothing to do with shaving.

Same with hair removal creams, they only remove the strands superficially and not from the hair follicles. So it does not give you darker hair either, but your hair growth will be just like before. You can be completely calm :)

On the other hand, if you pick / wax / thread / epilate - all hair removal where you pull the straw from the root, then can the hair follicles are affected in a way that causes the hair type to change. On the other hand, you get less and less hair if you pull from the root regularly, so most people get less hair over time. You do not get that effect from shaving.

I do not know how common it is to get dark hairs from doing hair removal with methods that remove the hair from the root, but I have threaded my face several times and never got darker hair from it. Many people who do it regularly know and experience that they only get less hair.

Other hair removal methods for unwanted facial hair growth:

  • Threading - Threading the face means that you pull the straws from the root, but unlike waxing, you only fish up the straws instead of tearing the entire skin. The most common is to do this at the salon.
  • Thread epilator - I can HOTLY recommend Trudy of Sweden Thread Pilator (adlink) as you see in the picture above! It works like threading, but you do it on your own! It is a bit difficult on the upper lip I think because the nose is in the way (but probably goes well with a little practice) but crazy effective in the rest of the face. Both on small fjun and on thicker straws (answer yes I have tested on both legs and Fiffi for educational purposes and rafsrafsrafs said it so I was hairless, haha). Positively surprised by this!
  • Epilator - It is possible to use an epilator on the face as well! However, it can be difficult to get hold of the smallest blemishes, which means that it is not as effective if you want to remove all hair on the face. I have not tested this myself but have heard a lot Braun FaceSpa Pro 912 (adlink) which is an epilator made for the face!
  • Epistick - Facial hair removal with epistax uses the same principle as when threading. I do it on myself sometimes but it takes longer so it doesn't happen that often. For example Sensi Spring Tweezer (adlink). It can be difficult at first, but then you get the right technology!
  • Waxing - Waxing the face can be done at home or in a salon, if you have very small blemishes on the face, it can be an effective method. However, have never tried it myself. Threading is more gentle on the skin as it fishes up the hair shaft, instead of tearing the skin.
  • Shaver - Shavers work on both coarse straws and thin straws. There are lots of different ones, some are better than others to get rid of even the smallest bugs.
  • Razor - Works in the same way as an eyebrow knife but a little more hardcore and shaves closer to the skin. Greater risk of shaving fins I would think.
  • Laser - To permanently remove facial hair, you can book an appointment for an IPL laser. However, it does not work on hair but only on dark hairs.
  • Cream - There are various creams for hair removal on the face. However, have not tested these so nothing I can recommend.

If you who read any more tips, you are very welcome to comment on it! :) I myself usually combine eyebrow knife and tweezers. Sometimes epistick as I said, but mostly because it's fun haha.

straight face woman, girl, hair removal face, brow knife, eyebrow knife, frown, fuzzy cheeks, makeup durability

Abstract hair removal face with eyebrow knife

Eyebrow knife is a quick, easy, inexpensive and relatively gentle way to do facial hair removal!

The answers to the two most common questions are: No you will not get dark or coarse hairs from it. Yes, you can get a stubble feeling if you have coarser straws than me, but if you have as soft and thin hairs as me, you do not get stubble.

The purpose is that the make-up lasts better, the skin gets a nice glow and it is incredibly nice to do it too, as self-care! :)

Shout out if you have any questions! ♥

Here I have collected my best tips for nail biters and how you can stop biting your nails!

How can you stop biting your nails? (10 smart tips)

Is biting your nails dangerous?

Biting your nails can be dangerous & harmful. If you bite a lot on the nails, the main risks are that the skin around the nail becomes sore and sore. It can also damage the tissue that causes the nail to grow and can result in abnormal nails. It is also dangerous with small wounds on the fingers because the hands are more exposed to bacteria and can even in the worst case cause severe infections & blood poisoning.

I actually have an acquaintance who got blood poisoning when he bit up a wound in connection with nail biting!

How do you stop biting your nails?

Here are my top 10 tips for stopping biting your nails. They are not listed in any particular order as you have to find what suits you. Some of the tips work better on others while others worse.

Test yourself to find the best method that works best against nail biting and run on it! :)

1. Keep your nails short & cut them often

It is difficult to bite on the nails if there is nothing to bite on! Cutting & filing your nails daily to make sure they are as short as possible can help you stop biting your nails.

The result is also smooth and fine edges, which minimizes the risk of being bit-sucked. Uneven edges are a big trigger! I think everyone recognizes that, even non-nail biters :)

2. Go to the salon and fix your nails

If you have nice and well-groomed nails that you have also paid to get fixed, it can minimize the risk of you starting to bite on your nails. Therefore, it may be worth trying this method!

Also, biting on built nails is not as satisfying. It is as if not the "right" material to bite on.

If you do not want to go to the salon but still fix your nails, I can recommend my post about doing it at home: Make acrylic nails on yourself (Step by step)

3. Identify your nail bit triggers

Why biting your nails can have different causes. Triggers are times when you get a urge to bite your nails and then start biting. Identifying the contexts in which you bite your nails makes you more prepared before you start biting your nails. That way, you can either prevent the situation from happening or change your behavior pattern.

Ex: Do you bite your nails while watching a movie? Or when you get stressed?

4. Replace the nail-biting habit with a good habit

Once you have identified your triggers, it is easier to replace nail biting with something else. An unaccustomed or habit can more easily be replaced with another unaccustomed or habit. Use this to your advantage and replace nail biting with a good habit instead! :)

5. Keep your hands and mouth busy

This tip is also linked to when you start to feel your triggers better. Then you can make sure that your hands and mouth are already occupied so that there is no time to bite your nails. Tips are e.g. chew gum and let your hand draw on a pad or similar. You understand the thing! :)

Example: I would like to have something to "stuff" with when I talk on the phone. Then I produce a coloring book instead (have one with nice patterns, not a children's coloring book so hehe) so I am busy in the meantime.

6. Try to gradually stop biting your nails

People are different and some find it easier to just skip something while others require a serious weaning. Then it may be a good idea to try to gradually stop biting your nails. For example. you choose to make your thumbs unauthorized the first week. You then tell the brain powerfully that the thumbs are a no-go zone. It is therefore allowed to bite on the other nails but not on the thumbs.

Gradually, put on several fingers until there is nothing left. You can also e.g. starts with just one hand etc.

7. Wear gloves more often

This may feel a little strange, but if you have big problems with nail biting, it is worth trying! Wear gloves more often and also indoors. It will then be physically impossible for you to bite your nails if you have gloves on and can make you more aware of your triggers and when you get them.

8. Visualize that your nails are strong & healthy

Visualization can be very powerful as the brain cannot differentiate between visualization and reality in the same way. If you then visualize that you have strong & healthy nails that do not look damaged, you can make the brain stop the behavior and stop biting the nails.

9. Lacquer the nails with a "stop biting the nails-nail polish"

There are some nail polishes that are there to stop biting the nails. I do not know how effective these are, but if you have major problems with nail biting, it may be worth testing. There are certainly other remedies for nail biting as well.

An acquaintance of mine had a transparent nail polish that tasted really bad, to stop biting. But he bit it off and then he could bite his nails anyway. So for him it did not work. But worth trying as I said!

10. Think of all the bacteria hiding on your nails & fingers

Make yourself disgusted by putting your fingers to your mouth by thinking of all the bacteria you have on them. Hands and fingers are usually more exposed to bacteria and viruses because you touch handles and other places where several have touched. By realizing how much bacteria that can hide on your hands & fingers can make you have a much greater resistance to biting your nails.

Maybe you can watch a documentary about hands and bacteria?

Best tips for nail-biting kids?

These are my top tips, some work better while others work worse. It is important to find the way that works for yourself. With small children biting their nails, it can be more difficult, but there are chewing bracelets & chewing collars that may be worth trying then. They are also available in adult sizes and are available on funkamera.se.

I hope some of my tips for stopping biting your nails will help you! If you are a nail biter and have some tips of your own that have worked against nail biting, you are very welcome to comment below! :)

Personally, I do not have problems with nail biting but have talked to many customers at the salon about this. However, I have had the problem that I bite on the inside of the lips, a lot! I sometimes have relapses even today, but for me the "downsizing method" has worked best. That I reduced over and over and finally got used to it. Because it is difficult to just "decide" because you do not think about doing it until it is too late.

So I know the struggle :)

Fever & chills - When do you have a fever? + How do I alleviate it? (7 tips)

0

Fever and chills are so hard. When do you have a fever and how do I relieve it? Here are my 7 tips for self-care!

I am a self-proclaimed expert on fever and chills, haha. Or fever care is probably a better word choice. This is because in 2.5 years I have had a sore throat 26 times with over 39 degrees fever and fever. Almost every month then (but not regularly).

But nothing bad that does not bring anything good with it;) As soon as someone near me gets a fever, I give my fever tips. Those tips are incredibly appreciated and very helpful!

So I thought, why not share these in a blog post? Maybe I can help more! So my sore throats are not completely in vain;)

Caring for the underlying problem is also important, as fever is a symptom and not a disease. This post only focuses on "surviving the fever period" in as comfortable a way as possible and with a quick recovery!

when do you have a fever? 38 degrees 38 ° C, 38.5, best thermometer, fever thermometer, take the temperature, child thermometer, forehead, ears, mouth, under the arm

When do you have a fever?

What counts as a fever? In 1177 it says that over 38 degrees counts as fever.

When I was at the Infection Clinic, they said that you have a temperature above 38.5. So 38.5 = not fever, but 38.6 = fever.

When I started to have problems with my throat, fever and chills, I was quite confused about this, I felt feverish as soon as the thermometer showed 37. Was I sensitive? Was I unusually low-tempered? You hear many people say "I have a very low temp".

But now I have learned that it is above all about how / where you take the temperature. When I felt feverish at 37, I took the temperature under my arm.

You also have a lower temperature in the morning than when you go to sleep (both normal temp and at fever temperature). This can also be included in the calculations.

Here I lay feeling sorry for myself, the last time I had a sore throat with a high fever and chills. Poor little :)

Fever temp - Thermometer & ta tempen (tip 1)

How to take the temperature? Under the arm? Mouths? The ear? Pannan? Butt?

The first question is, what is the purpose? Do you measure your fever temperature so that you can keep track of yourself? Or because you are going to seek care and the care staff need to know what your body temperature is?

Seek care:

If you are going to talk to healthcare professionals, I would recommend an ear thermometer, or alternatively that you also tell how you took the tempen.

This is because your body temperature is different in different parts of the body. At health centers and clinics (at least the ones I've been to) they take the temperature in the ear.

What is the difference between different thermometers? According to my own research, it is like this:

The temperature under the arm shows 0.5 degrees lower temperature compared to in the mouth.
The temperature in the mouth shows 0.5 degrees lower temperature than in the ear.

Example: The last time I was at the health center, I had 39.4 ° C with their ear thermometer. 38.9 ° C with my own classic thermometer in my mouth (under my tongue). And under my arm I had only 38.4 ° C.

Answer yes, I am so nerdy that I had my own thermometer and tested immediately afterwards just to see the difference. Have done it several times and it always differs exactly 0.5 ° C.

That is: it differs a whole degree under the arm compared to in the ear (note according to my thermometer and my tests!). A degree is very high if healthcare professionals judge that you have a fever if you have over 38.5. If I measured under the arm and said "I have 38.4", they would have answered that it is not even a fever, but according to their own measurements, I had 39.4.

With as high a fever and chills as I had then, I would have been very sad if they said "no you do not have a fever" haha. I get so sensitive when I have a fever too, can start crying from everything.

Take the temperature to keep track of yourself:

If, on the other hand, the purpose is just that you want to check your fever temperature for your own sake, then the simple answer is: it does not matter how you take the temperature, as long as you measure the same every time. Then you can compare your normal temp (when you are healthy) with your fever temperature.

Because even though it differs in different parts of the body, the increase, ie the difference, between normal temperature and fever temperature is the same. However, it is important that you know what your normal temperature is at approximately, so take the temperature when you are healthy once so that you know.

Nowadays I usually take the temperature in my mouth. However, if I had no picture of it, I would offer this instead as I had had a fever and chills for several days. With swollen eyes but happy that I was on the road to recovery :)

How the fever temperature differs in the butt, I have no research of my own as I did not take the temperature like that, neither myself nor in hospital.

Best thermometer for children?

A thermometer that measures in the forehead is easy on toddlers. Quick and easy thing to have at home to keep track of "fever or non-fever".

However, it can (at least the one I have tested) be quite misleading. You can get quite different results, often in the higher direction. So you should not go to the emergency room even if it shows 42 degrees, but then I would take a regular thermometer and double check the fever temperature with one that is more reliable before you seek emergency care for your child. Answer yes, it has happened haha.

Otherwise, an ear thermometer is preferable, they used it on the pediatric emergency room as well. It goes fast too, even if it is not quite as smooth as the forehead. But everything is difficult if the child refuses to sit still.

Recover faster after fever (tip 2)

Some people do not advocate antipyretics because the body has a fever and chills for a reason. That it heals better then. I know nothing about it, that's for sure! But it's hard to resist because it is so effectively.

In addition, antipyretic tablets help me to both drink, get something to eat and above all to sleep! I can not fall asleep when I have chills and high fever. I'm completely exhausted and my brain is spinning, but I'm not falling asleep.

So it's not just about "feeling better for the moment" but not getting too tired in the meantime. Then the recovery time will be much faster later when you start to get healthy, because the body does not lack both fluid, nutrition and sleep at the same time.

However, you should not eat for much rather. If you have a lot of food in your stomach, your body is busy digesting the food. Now you need to focus on getting nutrients through foods that are easy to eat. Without antipyretic tablets, I do not get anything in me, not a drop, but when the tablets have their cock, I take care. Miska usually cooks different vegetable soups, spinach soup or makes salads for me then.

drink, fever, fluid, nutrition, carrot juice, lemon, vitamin c, immune system

That I have such a nice boyfriend who makes his own juice with i.a. carrot, lemon, mint and probiotics to me when I'm sick ♥ He's really the best person. Lots of nutrition and easily digested, so I try to think!

Antipyretic tablets, mix Alvedon and Ipren (Tip 3)

There are many different antipyretic tablets to choose from. Certainly different schools about what is best as well. These tips are based entirely on my personal preferences:

Paracetamol and Ibuprofen can be mixed. In other words, you get to mix e.g. Alvedon and Ipren. Mixing these is the most effective I think, an Alvedon and an Ipren give more effect than two Alvedon.

Note this is just my experience. But I googled now and actually found an article from Janusinfo Stockholm Region with "commercially independent drug information aimed at doctors and healthcare professionals". There they present a comparison of over-the-counter drugs, the result was that a combination of paracetamol and ibuprofen provides the best pain relief. So I'm not completely out cycling;) I review not only beauty products but tablets as well, haha.

Two Alvedon and one Ipren are the best. If I take it at the same time, I feel almost fresh after 1.5 hours. The "dangerous" thing about this is that you can do things that the body does not really have the strength to do, so it is important to take it easy and rest anyway. If without antipyretics you can not even stand straight, then you should not do anything physically just because you have eaten antipyretics.

I also say this based on my own experience. In the beginning, when I had these periods of fever, I completely ignored it. I nibbled on tablets and then drove wheelbarrows with firewood until my lungs burned. Ugh it's not healthy. Maybe that's why my throat infections in the end could not heal themselves :(

When you have to be strong, despite a fever

I have to work at the same time as I am sick, because I am sick so often so it is not like an alternative to be free every time. I've learned to live with it! Then two Alvedon and one Ipren are the rescue! Note: I then work from home and sit in front of the computer all the time. So physically, it's no more strenuous than watching a movie.

There are also those who have children who are ill at the same time and just have to be strong. To you I just say: two Alvedon and one Ipren at the same time, you will not regret it.

What time should I take antipyretics?

Think of the times! You can take more Alvedon and Ipren after 4-6 hours. But you must not take more than two alvedon in 6 hours and no more than 3 Ipren per day. I usually think "2 Alvedon every 6 hours, 1 Ipren every 8 hours"

If I have something important planned (eg a video meeting) then I time so that I take two Alvedon and an Ipren at the same time about 1.5 - 2 hours before the meeting.

But otherwise I usually spread it out so that I am never completely tablet-free. For example like this:

Kl. 7.00 Ipren
Kl. 11.00 Alvedon
Kl. 15.00 Ipren
Kl. 17.00 Alvedon
Kl. 23.00 Ipren
Kl. 04.00 Alvedon

However, this is when I have a real fever. If I have a mild fever instead, I take tablets if necessary. For example. an Alvedon 3-4 times in one day only, nothing more. You should not eat unnecessarily.

I must also emphasize that when I talk about Alvedon in numbers, I am talking about the small size 500 mg. If you have 1000 mg tablets, you can only take one tablet every 6 hours.

Maxdos Alvedon: Maximum 8 tablets per day (recommended 1-2 tablets every 4-6 hours)
Maxdos Ipren: Maximum 3 tablets per day (every 8 hours if you want to spread it out over a day).

3 tips to sleep better when you have a fever (tips 4, 5 & 6)

What are the problems when going to sleep? 1. frossa. 2. you do not fall asleep 3. night sweats.

1. Tablet planning

Plan your antipyretic tablets so you take it about an hour before you go to sleep. If it is really "time" to take a tablet earlier, I usually prefer to stand and wait a little longer, so that I refill just in time for the night.

Why? It is good for several reasons. On the one hand, you get chills when the fever increases, but as soon as the tablets start to work, you get hot instead. Falling asleep with chills is next to impossible, you become so cold even though you are very hot. For me who hates freezing, chills are extremely difficult.

It also helps you fall asleep. I do not know if everyone has that problem, but I can not fall asleep when I have a high fever. If I fall asleep, I sleep very badly. Almost like I'm just half asleep. But after reducing fever, I fall asleep like a log.

2. Sleep in terry cloth

Sleep in a terry bathrobe! This is the best ever. If you do not own one and your fever is a one-time occurrence, then you can put a large towel on the sheet and have a large towel between you and the blanket. But nothing beats a terrycloth bathrobe, that you are completely wrapped in terrycloth, even your arms.

When I have chills I do not sweat at all, but when the fever temperature and fever go down thanks to tablets, the body feels "oh how hot I am" and then wakes up at night and is completely wet from sweat. I mean not just a little damp, but like someone showered me in my sleep. To wake up later when the "heat wave" is over, with then cold and super wet (!) Bedding. So that's HORRIBLE. Yuk. Prepare with terrycloth! If you do not sweat, it is not worse than that, but if you sweat like me then it is worth its weight in gold to be able to sleep through the night.

3. Water and antipyretic tablets next to the bed

Prepare tablets and a glass of water next to the bed. Partly in case you get thirsty. But mainly because if you have a high fever, the antipyretic tablets for a whole night are not enough. I then wake up around 4 o'clock with chills again. Do you know what's awful when you have chills and throbbing headaches at the same time? To take off the blanket and stand up to go to the kitchen!

Top up with antipyretics so that you feel a little better and do not have any chills, just in time until you wake up in the morning. It's about timing :)

fever, chills, fever chills, fever temperature, sleep, sleep, night sweats, night sweats, sleeping in terry cloth, terry bathrobe, tips

Here I am after a night with a terry bathrobe and a 39 degree fever. I felt shit but thanks to my permanent makeup tattoos, I still look pretty alert (?) Haha.

Fever (tip 7)

Fever fever means that you freeze a lot even though you are very hot. You have chills while the fever rises, I feel that it passes when the fever has reached its peak. I remember my mother saying when you were little "you freeze when the fever goes up, and sweat when the fever goes down".

Since I have had contact with the care regarding this, they want to know how high a fever I get every time. Then of course I let all the antipyretic tablets go out of the system first before I take the temperature. How do I know when the fever has reached its peak and will not rise again? Well, because the chills are starting to subside.

So, to get rid of the chills, you can either take antipyretic tablets, or wait until the fever stops rising.

Meanwhile, the heating mattress is my best! Had I had a bathtub, I probably would have actually gone to bed there. When you freeze so much that you just shake as well.

And warm your hands in the sink! When I have a fever, I am still very hot around the body, even though I am freezing. However, my hands and feet get really cold. Ice cubes!

It's like the body shuts off the blood circulation in the limbs to prioritize the other organs (?) Haha, it may not work that way but it feels that way. Then I usually fill the sink with hot water and warm my hands.

Before they get the heat up completely, they always look like this:

fever fever, chills, cold fingers, cold hands, cold feet, cold toes, icy cold, blue nails, warm hands in water

Half red and half blue haha. Poor little fingers :)

You can also have chills without fever, then my tips on heating mattress and hand bath also work of course.

This post is probably good even if you take care of a feverish child. So that you have more understanding. For example. I was once with and took care of a child with a fever, she had previously had chills but now wanted to take off the sweater and the mother said "no you have to wear it, it is cold and you are sick". So I asked, "When did you give Alvedon?" which was 1.5 hours earlier. Then I could explain that she probably feels super hot now that Alvedonen has hurt a lot. I who know how it feels when the sweats after the Alvedon come, haha. So she had to take off her sweater and was satisfied immediately :)

As I said, this post is my own tips on fever. You can read more about fever and advice on 1177.

Hope my fever tips can help someone more! Maybe someone who slipped in here via a Google search or so :) Feel free to look around the rest of the blog also in such cases, I do not blog so much about health really but mainly about makeup, entrepreneurship and a little private too ♥

Hugs are!
