Makeup mirror

Both at the salon and in the blog, I get a lot of questions about our makeup mirrors, super fun! Just this weekend, several emails about the mirror have fallen in, probably after my posts about threading where you could see the mirrors? :)

I've had the little mirror Chloe Classic White* for a very long time, when I received it as a Christmas present several years ago. I had it first with halogen lamps with quite a high watt, and then with a little lower when they got so heavenly hot. I want to emphasize that the lamps were not included in the mirror then, but now when you buy a mirror, halogen lamps are included that fit.

And since I like the mirror so much, we now have four large Chloe mirrors in the salon too! So heavenly nice and good in every way. Have had several customers who said "oh I want one like this at home too" :)

So now I thought I would write a little more detailed info about the mirrors, which together answer all the questions I have received recently!

Where to buy the mirror?
On sminkspegel.se if you live in Sweden, but you can also shop for them makeupmirror.com if you live in another country in Europe. They are available in different sizes and colors, and a novelty right now is that they are available as full body mirrors as well, gosh what a wish I feel for them! Think of one in the hall :)

When you shop on the website, you get free shipping, 1 year warranty and light bulbs that are included.

Should you have LED lights or halogen?
It all depends. If you, like me, sit in front of the mirror for a very long time, sometimes several hours, I recommend LED as the halogen lamps become very hot when they are on for a long time. It then gets very hot in front of the mirror (though nice in the morning haha) and I have, among other things, managed to burn myself on the arm and melt a eyeliner in that way. In addition, LED is more economical and environmentally friendly in the long run :)

But halogen works well if you either do not fix yourself so long in front of the mirror, or if you do not sit so close. For example. the larger mirrors are super nice as furnishings in other rooms than where you put on make-up, in the hall or in the living room, for example, and then it is cozier with warmer light that halogen lamps provide.

I have bought LED lamps for all my mirrors and prefer it the most! And in their new full body mirrors (which is Limited Edition) LED lamps are included instead of halogen as in the other mirrors :)

Does the dimmer work with LED lights?
I have been asked which LED lights I use and if the dimmer still works. For my small mirror, the dimmer works great, but unfortunately I do not know where they were bought. For my large mirrors I have bought LED lamps from IKEA, but according to the electricians at the salon they were not so good for the dimmer function, but they worked I know because I started by buying one and tested in my small mirror before I bought more :)

But I have a little hard to say exactly when we have specially built tables (a la my dad) in the salon where the electricians have built in the mirrors so that the lamp button is directly on the table, so that it is as practical as possible, and then they took removed the dimmer function because my newly purchased lamps were still not suitable for it, so I have no dimmer on any of the new mirrors anymore.

In other words, yes the dimmer also works with LED, but you have to buy LED lamps that are dimmable, which I had no idea about then but bought the cheapest I found.

Are you happy with the mirror, you who have had it for so long?
I have had my mirror since December 2012, and I have not had a single problem with it! It is still used daily and I am as happy as you can be :)

Threading - how does it work?

Hi Helena! I am interested in booking threading, but do not have much control over how it works and what the difference in the result is compared to e.g. shaving or waxing. What do you look like right after, and the days after? Is there anything you need to think about? Hug!"

What fun that you want to book threading! Here is a post with lots of info that I hope answers all your questions and a little more :)

What is threading?

A hair removal method that removes the hair strands with the root and therefore gives a long-lasting result (unlike, for example, hair removal cream and shaving where the hair grows out after only a few days). You twist a thread and pull it in a special way over the skin so that all the straws follow, even small thin scabs. The method is several thousand years old and has been widely used in the Middle East and Asia.

threading

Why do you thread your face?

Some do it because they have coarser hair growth they want to get rid of, for example dark hair on the upper lip is extremely common even on women. But even people with lighter hair growth can have a lot of facial hair, which is often very long as well. Some people are bothered by the fact that it is visible, for example in sunlight, and some (including me) are bothered by the fact that the make-up does not apply as well in the areas where you have a lot of hair.

I have gotten quite long straws under the cheekbones that bother me, have felt a bit like fur haha even though others probably have not seen it at all. In addition, I would like to remove the scalp around the mouth, partly because I often put on make-up (and am tattooed) outside my actual lip contour, which means that I have straws on my lips otherwise, but also because when I take close-ups of lip make-up, I think the hairs are highlighted so much that it disturbs the images.

How much can you thread?

You can either thread small areas such as the upper lip, lower lip and chin, but you can also thread the entire face, neck and neck. Threading eyebrows is also common!

How does it happen?

  • The area is thoroughly cleaned, any makeup is removed for hygiene reasons.
  • Perfume-free powder is sometimes applied to the area to make the straws stand out clearly.
  • All strands are removed with the help of the thread, until it is completely smooth and free of hair.

The treatment often ends with some form of cooling moisturizer.

threading face

Does it hurt?

Everyone is differently sensitive, I personally thought it hurt the first features only (on the upper lip) and up on the cheekbones, but in the rest of the face it did not hurt at all. But it is probably common to think that it hurts, but I was pleasantly surprised :) If you have thicker straws, it probably feels much more.

What do you look like right after?

The skin turns red when you thread, it is individual how much, some become very red others not much at all. The skin feels smoother than the baby and a little warm. It almost feels like you got a facelift!

The days after - In many people, the end result has been achieved as soon as the redness subsides, ie after only a few hours after the treatment. On sensitive skin, however, there may be small fin-like rashes, which disappear after 3-4 days. Also common if you wax.

If you do threading face regularly, the skin gets used to it and you stop getting a rash. I personally have not threaded my face so often that I stopped having a rash, however, the skin on my upper lip has gotten used to it and there I no longer get a rash.

Note that these rashes do not have to do with acne skin, but rather because you have a sensitive skin. I have a super sensitive skin and get a rash when I wax my body too, so I was a little prepared for that :)

threading skin

What is the difference in the result with threading compared to other methods?

Methods such as shaving and cream are not as durable as the hair is only removed on the top of the skin, then it grows out after just a few days. In addition, shaving gives a stubby feeling when it grows out, because you cut off the thin top of the straws.

Compared to waxing, threading is also much more gentle, waxing pulls a little in the skin as well and takes large portions at the same time, which can lead to, for example, ruptured blood vessels.

How long does it last?

It is different how fast the hair grows, for about 3 weeks most people are completely hairless but in some it takes even longer. The hair on the face usually does not grow as fast as e.g. the eyebrows. If you thread regularly, the hair growth decreases and then you do not need to thread often at all.

Can you get coarser hair growth from threading?

In most cases, the opposite is true, hair growth decreases if you thread regularly for a long time. But since you pull the hairs from the root, which has a certain strain on the hair follicle, there are no guarantees, but it is certainly not common.

When I was a partner in a beauty salon, we did not have a single known case where someone got darker hair growth from threading.

Is it bad for the skin to thread?

If you do not have very sensitive skin, it is not bad at all! Threading starts the blood circulation in the skin and removes dead skin cells, a bit like an exfoliation. Many people do it as a facial even if the hair does not disturb them, a bit like microneedling :)

But if you continue to get a rash or notice that it stresses the skin, you should avoid threading.

Now I think I have included all the info on the subject! You who read who have threaded / threads regularly, you are very welcome to come with a response as well :) And if you have any more questions, shout out!

Threading on Creative Makeup

Zahra has started with us Monday and Tuesday 10-16 every week and in addition to picking / coloring eyebrows and lashes, you can also book threading with her! :)

She threaded my whole face yesterday and gosh what a baby I am now! I have quite a lot of bumps around my lips that are visible and disturbing when I take lip pictures, and under the cheekbones I have had quite long bumps as well, so it was really nice to get rid of it!

Unlike waxing, threading is much, much gentler on the skin, as the thread does not pull anything into the skin as waxing does, but only fishes up the straws. It also has a certain exfoliating effect, a bit like microneedling, it starts the blood circulation and gets rid of old skin cells and forms new cells much faster. So many people do threading as a facial as well and not just to get rid of hair. Super cool!

Hairdresser at Monica Werner

9

A supplier (who I last met 2 weeks ago) was by the salon today:
IHeeej! Are you okay?
He Hey! Eh yeah, I'm looking for Helena is she here?
IYou mean Annika? No, she's not here today, unfortunately.
HeNo, Helena, is she not here?
IBut it's me!

I have been and fixed the frill at Monica today, and of course there is a difference but not such a big difference haha, he did not recognize me with the new hair color he said and looked very confused before I estimated - then he recognized the smile haha :)

In other words, I've been to Monica Werner again (which has a new super nice salon!) and as usual when you say "I want the old usual" her creative vein comes up and suggests something more fun, and you always leave with a smile on your face and feel great!

This is how it is with hair, you do not always have to make a huge change or run the old usual, there are lots of small changes you can make to liven up life without making any major decisions. As long as you have an energetic hairdresser who thinks it's fun to try something new, it's super fun, a tiny shade difference can make a big difference for you :)

IMG_7633_111

So now my hair looks like this - even more pink!

She had about the same color in the scalp as usual, but tested another brand that is a little more environmentally friendly - me like! And then she had in a colored wrap in the lengths instead of color or toning that we usually have otherwise, a wrap that I also brought home and can improve the color with in the shower, so heavenly nice!

The wrap is a brand with colors that she mixes herself at the salon, so you get a shade that is perfect for your own hair. If you buy e.g. Revlon or Maria Nila (which I also like) so there are only finished shades.

And this packaging I can say straight away that it is incredibly much more effective than the ones I have tested before! Monica applied a bright pink shade in dry hair throughout the lengths (it is more effective in dry hair, but it takes a lot more) and it gave more color than when she has used real color or toning, super fun :)

So now I feel really bang-looking in my hair, love that it is even more rosé than usual! ♥

Can really recommend Monica to you who want to make a fun change!
